ASCENT TO VALLECITOS HILL

The Cordon del Plata, located a few kilometers from the city of Mendoza, is one of the most emblematic destinations for those who wish to get started in the high mountains of the Argentine Andes. Inside this mountain range, the Cerro Vallecitos stands out as the second highest summit in the area, reaching 5,470 meters above sea level. Its ascent is ideal for those looking for an authentic mountain experience, without facing extreme technical difficulties, but with all the challenges and emotions that altitude offers.

The ascent to Cerro Vallecitos is much more than a simple hike: it is a true mountain expedition, perfect for those who wish to prepare for greater challenges such as Aconcagua, Mercedario or Tupungato. For six days, you will immerse yourself in breathtakingly beautiful landscapes, surrounded by snow-capped peaks, glacial valleys and endless skies. Each day is carefully planned to favor acclimatization and enjoyment, allowing you to advance at your own pace and with the permanent accompaniment of professional and bilingual guides.

The trek begins in Mendoza, where you will have a briefing and equipment check, ensuring that you have everything you need for the adventure. The private transfer will take you to Vallecitos, the starting point of the trek. From there, the route will take you through mountain trails to Las Veguitas Superior, where you will set up your first camp and begin to feel the unique energy of the high mountain. The second day of hiking will take you to El Salto de Agua, at 4,200 meters, the base of operations for the summit attempt. Here, a day of rest and acclimatization will allow you to adapt to the altitude and prepare you physically and mentally for the great challenge.

Route planning

Day 1: Arrival in Mendoza and Preparations

Arrival to the city of Mendoza. In the afternoon, we have an informative meeting with the guide, where personal equipment is checked and doubts about the expedition are solved. If necessary, equipment rental is arranged. Night in Mendoza, ideal to rest and acclimatize to the initial altitude.

Day 2: Transfer to Vallecitos and Trekking to Las Veguitas

After breakfast, we travel by private vehicle to Vallecitos (2,850 m), the starting point of the adventure. We start the approach trekking to Las Veguitas Superior (3,200 m), enjoying the first mountain landscapes. We set up the first camp and share dinner under the stars.

Day 3: Ascent to El Salto (Base Camp)

We have breakfast and dismantle the camp. We start the hike to El Salto (4,200 m), our base camp and key point for acclimatization. The route takes us through mountain trails and streams, with panoramic views of the Cordón del Plata. We set up camp and rest.

Day 4: Rest and Acclimatization Day at El Salto

Day dedicated to acclimatization and rest. We take the opportunity to hydrate the body, review mountain techniques and prepare the equipment for the summit day. The guide provides recommendations and answers questions. Free afternoon to enjoy the surroundings and recharge energies.

Day 5: Ascent to the summit of Vallecitos Hill

We get up early, have breakfast and start the ascent to the summit of Cerro Vallecitos (5,470 m). The journey offers spectacular views of the Andes Mountains and the satisfaction of reaching one of the most emblematic summits of Mendoza. After celebrating at the summit, we descend to El Salto camp to rest.

Day 6: Descent and Return to Mendoza

We have breakfast, dismantle the camp and start the descent to Vallecitos. There the vehicle awaits us to return to Mendoza, where the expedition ends and we celebrate the achievement.

Should I carry all my personal equipment in my backpack?

Yes, each participant must carry their personal equipment and food. If you wish, you can hire porters to facilitate the load.


Is there cellular coverage in the area?

Only in some sectors of the route and mainly with the company Movistar. It is recommended to inform family and friends about the limited connectivity.


Is the use of crampons mandatory?

Not always, but it may be necessary depending on the season and mountain conditions. The guide will inform you in the previous meeting if it is necessary to bring them.


What previous experience do I need for the promotion?

It is not mandatory to have technical experience, but it is advisable to be in good physical condition and to have done previous treks of several days.


What happens if I don't reach the summit?

Safety is our priority. If due to health, weather or the guide's decision it is not possible to reach the summit, the group's wellbeing is prioritized and the alternative plan is followed.


What kind of weather can I expect?

The weather in the high mountains is very variable. There can be sun, strong wind, intense cold and even snowfall, so it is essential to carry the right equipment and be prepared for sudden changes.


What happens in case of bad weather?

The itinerary can be modified to prioritize safety. Our guides are trained to make decisions based on weather conditions.


Are there toilets in the camps?

There are no structured bathrooms in the high altitude camps. Minimal environmental impact methods are used to preserve nature.


Can I leave luggage in Mendoza during the expedition?

Yes, you can leave part of your luggage at the lodging in Mendoza to avoid carrying unnecessary weight during the expedition.
