Expedition to the highest summit of Cordón del Plata
The ascent Cerro El Plata is one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences you can have in the Central Andes. With its imposing 5,930 meters above sea level, Cerro El Plata stands as the highest peak of the Cordón del Plata and one of the favorite destinations for those seeking adventure, self-improvement and direct contact with nature in its purest state.
Located in the heart of the Vallecitos Provincial Park, Only a few hours from the city of Mendoza, this mountain is a true classic for Argentine and foreign mountaineers. The journey to the summit will allow you to cross landscapes of breathtaking beauty: glacial valleys, rocky ridges, snowfields and panoramic views that extend to the Aconcagua and Tupungato on clear days. During the expedition, you will have the opportunity to observe the native flora and fauna, such as condors, foxes and a great variety of high altitude plants, in addition to learning about the geological formations that make this region unique.
The ascent Cerro El Plata is non-technical, which means that it does not require advanced climbing knowledge, but it does require excellent physical condition, previous experience, and a good knowledge of climbing.

Route planning
Day 1: Arrival in Mendoza and Preparations
Welcome in the city of Mendoza. Our team will meet you at your accommodation or meeting point. We will make a informational briefing where you will meet the guides and the rest of the group. Personal equipment will be checked and, if necessary, we will accompany you to rent or buy what is missing. We will take the opportunity to resolve doubts and review the itinerary. Night in Mendoza, ideal to rest and acclimatize to the altitude of the city.
Day 2: Transfer to Vallecitos and Trekking to Las Veguitas Superior
After breakfast, we transfer by private transfer towards Vallecitos (2,850 m.a.s.l.), gateway to the Cordón del Plata. There we will begin the approach trekking, enjoying the first mountain landscapes. We will walk for approximately 2 hours until we arrive at Las Veguitas Superior (3,200 masl), our first camp. We will set up our tents, share a welcome dinner and rest under a starry sky.
Day 3: Ascent to El Salto de Agua
Early breakfast and camp dismantling. We start the hike to El Salto de Agua (4,200 masl), the base camp for the ascent. The trail will take us through valleys and ridges, crossing high mountain landscapes and thawing streams. The journey lasts between 4 and 5 hours, with stops to hydrate and enjoy the views. Upon arrival, we set up camp, have lunch and have the afternoon free to rest, explore the surroundings and continue acclimatization.
Day 4: Acclimatization and Preparation Day
This day is dedicated to the acclimatization hike and the physical and mental preparation for the summit attempt. We will take a gentle reconnaissance hike around El Salto, ascending to nearby panoramic points to improve adaptation to the altitude. The guides will review the plan of attack to the summit, the use of technical equipment (such as crampons, if necessary) and safety measures. Afternoon rest, hydration and early dinner.
Day 5: Summit Day: Ascent of Cerro El Plata
We woke up at dawn, had breakfast and prepared the equipment for the big challenge. We started the ascent to the summit of Cerro El Plata (5,930 masl) around 5-6 am. The route will be physically and mentally demanding, crossing ridges, slopes and sectors of snow or ice depending on the season. Along the way, we will enjoy spectacular views of the Cordón del Plata and, weather permitting, Aconcagua in the distance.
The arrival at the summit is an unforgettable moment: we celebrate the achievement, take pictures and enjoy the scenery. Then, we begin the descent with caution to El Salto, where a well-deserved dinner and rest awaits us. The whole day can last between 10 and 12 hours.
Day 6: Descent to Vallecitos and Return to Mendoza
Breakfast and dismantling of the camp. We start the descent towards Vallecitos, enjoying the last mountain landscapes and sharing anecdotes of the expedition. Upon arrival, the private transfer back to Mendoza. Arrival in the afternoon, farewell to the group and free time to celebrate the success of the expedition in the city.
Day 7: Extra Day for Bad Weather or Acclimatization
This day is reserved as safety margin in case of bad weather, need for further acclimatization or any unforeseen event that may arise during the expedition. If it is not necessary to use it, you will be able to take advantage of it to rest in Mendoza or to carry out additional tourist activities.

In some parts of the route there is a signal, but only Movistar works well.
